BMW builds three very different brands, BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce, on top of one supply chain. That chain has to deliver everything from automotive steel to EV battery cells to the semiconductors running a modern car's electronics, and BMW sources almost none of it in-house.
The short answer
BMW's supply chain covers structure, power, and electronics:
- Structure and materials: ArcelorMittal supplies automotive steel for body and chassis structures; Albemarle supplies the lithium behind BMW's EV batteries.
- Batteries and electronics: Samsung SDI supplies battery cells for BMW's electric vehicles; Infineon Technologies supplies power semiconductors and microcontrollers.
- Systems and modules: Bosch supplies braking and ADAS systems; Continental supplies tires and vehicle electronics; Samvardhana Motherson supplies wiring harnesses and mirrors.
